   It was only a few years ago that I saw an article about wildfires in either Australia or the US West, where a new problem was becoming apparent – the ability to shift expensive planes and helicopters between the two locations during “fire season” was breaking as the seasons began overlapping heavily.

   Now it’s becoming clear that nations are going to have to band together to create full-time, professional, well-equipped and highly trained firefighting groups to provide extra assistance where and when the need arises. Ideally they’d be funded by nations, not act as private entities. Perhaps the focus could be to provide aircraft and pilots to augment local/national on-the-ground firefighters, and also include some standardization of fire tracking as well as tracking and communications gear for people on the ground. Being able to coordinate via satellite communications could be a lifesaver for firefighters in mountainous or remote areas.

   And since this will unfortunately be a growth industry, we may as well use it as a start to then be augmented with other disaster response functions such as flood rescue.

      Maybe governments around the world should confiscated and retrofit all the private jets and use them to fight the accelerating wildfires.
