The area around Houston needs its own flood-prone nickname (like “Tornado Alley”): The Big Sump? Floodsylvania?
It pretty much has all of the ingredients for recurrent flooding: extraction subsidence, ongoing natural coastal slump, decades of paving and clearing of land, storm surge funnel terrain and ever-increasing heavy rain events.
