I’m struck that Mexico was entirely reliant on the US government agency, the National Hurricane Center, and had no good local doppler radar to inform them.
Also, as pointed out by the Fox Weather guy, we talk about high sea surface temperatures but it is the sea temperature at depth that can make a big difference. (RI was also helped both by useful input warm humid air flows and by good venting with a jet streak.)
It was a perfect storm.
