New Jersey Governor Chris Christie described his first look by the light of day at the devastation wrought on the Jersey coast by Frankenstorm Sandy. He looks shaken.
Some rather harrowing B-roll video here.
Meanwhile, daughter of the former presidential candidate, Meghan McCain, tweets –

Mitt Romney had called for the end of FEMA??How would each state coordinate action quickly…Maybe folks will see that FEMA is not socialism…FEMA mumbo Jumbo???
Does Meghan risk being ostracized by the Repubs?
We should ask Mr. Romney and the rest of the “small government” Republicans which part of FEMA should we cut. And which part of our infrastructure doesn’t need to be rebuilt, or improved.
Kudos to Meghan McCain for speaking truth to power.

A few more disasters like this should be the ticket to ‘reality realization’.
Romney, Ryan Pitched FEMA Cuts:
http://news.yahoo.com/politics-fema-mitt-romney-suggested-less-federal-involvement-204603618–abc-news-politics.html
According to Ryan, there has been a 35% increase in FEMA aid from 2002 to 2011 over the previous decade. He attributes this to unwise use of funds, not Katrina or the fact that there might actually have been more weather events requiring FEMA aid (or simple inflation).
In September of last year, the government almost shutdown over budgeting enough FEMA aid to keep it running during the 2012 calendar year. A compromise was agreed upon that averted the shutdown. Paul Ryan voted against the compromise. His budget proposal for 2013 includes a roughly 40% cut to FEMA over the 2012 budget.
FEMA is budgeted at $19 billion for 2012. The U.S. defense spending budget is over $1 trillion per year. Both Romney and Ryan want to increase the defense budget.
This is the crazy cuckoo land we live in.
