So – wind-solar-batteries now account for up to 90% of new energy infrastructure. And the capacity of already installed renewable energy is rising exponentially. That is undoubtedly good news.
But – and this is one hell of a but – there’s no mention here of the fucking big elephant in the room: the amount of energy we actually use is also rising exponentially.
I can think of no reason why data centres (which are built and run for private profit) should be allowed to draw their energy from grid. Let them generate their own energy.
FWIW, China has just started building data centers which don’t have the major problem of land use or cooling, and they can be placed near many major cities.
