Music Break: Billie Eilish – What Was I Made For? (Theme from Barbie)

Dude, it’s August 8th.

Take the damn afternoon off.
Barbie’s pretty good.

I would say it already has a lock on at least one Oscar – Best Song.

Just discovered the first live performance of this, apparently just the other day at Lollapalooza.

Below, the “Official” video.

  1. As an ecologist, I value all the great information about climate change you give us. But, shouldn’t the title of your information just be something like “Climate Change News” or something similar. The “denial” and “crock” are confusing to new people.

        1. I can’t imagine anyone saying that except someone trying to deny that they’re denying science, or as MLK said, that people to whom keeping order and not upsetting anyone are far more important than justice, were a bigger problem than outright racists. So I had an honest question, too, and asked it. You didn’t let Gene answer, instead jumped in to attack me. A long-standing habit.

“The U.S. population with your eco-fantasy-land mindset is comprised of you and maybe four other people that I haven’t met yet. I’m looking at what actually exists in political reality.”

Remember saying that to me? I had and have the facts on my side (many, many polls, eg.) and your refusal to admit real reality led you to accuse me of all kinds of things, including unamericanness (which I couldn’t care less about), being crazy, being an ideologue, being ignorant, and more.

All of which comes from your fundamental misunderstanding not just of me but of the country & of the situation, and your projection of your own faults onto both. I once considered you a valuable ally but you kept attacking me for stating facts and my informed opinions, & every time I answered you with more facts and reason you responded with venom. And though I haven’t commented much here recently and you have no call to, you’re doing it again.

I’ve been noticing more and more that 5-10 years after I start saying unpopular, even reviled things, either events bear me out or a growing group of people on a site are saying the same things, as if they’ve always known them. Try learning from me instead of leaping right off to anger, projective blaming, and the rest of this.

          1. I have accused you of being an ideologue. You most definitely are. it’s a bit funny to me that you deny it. I’ve never accused you of being ‘unamerican’ or ignorant – find the post where you think I said that, please. I’ve said repeatedly we live in different realities and stand by that.

You are making this site a very hostile place, J4. You are being a bully to others, and it’s no wonder why there are so few other commenters here. Just chill, bub. Crikey.

    1. you’re right. I’m not good at naming things.
playlist for the video series that came first, and inspired the blog name.

I’ve thought about renaming the blog many times but frankly the complications of trying to
lay on a new domain name, while keeping the legacy posts and comments in wordpress have
      scared me off.
That said, on today’s Twitter, or “X”, whatever, probably I’d get more traffic if I named it
“Climate Scam” or something like that.
If anyone has an idea I’m all ears.
Also, probably my “fuck em if they can’t take a joke” attitude has, on balance, been a bit
      a disadvantage.

      1. Everybody I’ve told about your site in person has laughed, & loved the name. It’s memorable.
