I must have heard that song a 1,000 times but never really paid attention to the lyrics until hearing this version. Those are some powerful heartbreak lyrics. The kind of hurts so good song about real life stuff. Thanks for posting that. Of course I never new Gordon Lightfoot, but I did meet someone who was on a hundreds of mile long canoe trip on the Yukon River who came about two guys having some trouble with their canoe, possible because of a significant beer supply on board. One of those two guys was Gordon. So I guess he other fun and adventures in addition to writing some of the best songs of our time. That’s in the opinion of Bob Dylan, not just me. So you can’t take that one to the bank. Losing John Prine and Gordon Lightfoot hurts, and not even in the hurts so good way.
