Plane Pounded by Hail makes Emergency Landing

That looks completely normal.
As I’ve said before, one of the positives from climate change will be an increasing number of remarkable youtube videos.

Below, Stanford’s Noah Diffenbaugh on extreme weather and storms under climate change, interviewed in Spring, 2015.

Dr. Diffenbaugh refers to “CAPE” – meaning “Convective Available Potential Energy” –  the amount of energy available to power a thunderstorm.

  1. Question is, why was a pilot flying through a thunderstorm?
Experience has taught pilots to give them a wide berth, of at least 10 miles.

  2. The animated weather map suggests perhaps they were trying to get through that “hole” between storms, and didn’t succeed.
