Forget the perenial narcissists. They come and go. I blame Edward Bernays. He made the ‘science’ of deceiving the public into an industry.
Bernays is just of many on the list of “deceivers of the public”.
You might even heap some blame on those COWM that wrote crap like: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” and “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity….”.
They were under the influence of the Wetiko, remember, and thought that capitalism (and slavery) were the way to “pursue happiness and promote the general welfare”.
Well, you’ll have to blame Joseph Goebbels for inspiring Bernays. And you might want to mention Ivan Pavlov who the groundwork. Then there’s always Jose Delgado for his seminal work, Physical Control of the Mind: Toward a Psychocivilized Society.
Actually you’ll need to go back ten to fifteen thousand years to the inception of “religion“, the original indoctrination machine. If you can sell people an all-powerful sky-fairy, you can sell them anything.
“God” and “religion” are the pathological contrivances of essential psychopaths. These concepts were probably the tools used to establish the first successful “Pathocracy“.
Think about it. What better way for a parasitic minority to gain control of the majority?
