Not bad as it stands (even if only 2 minutes long and a bit “shallow”), but it will be interesting to see if it gets much air time over the next months. I suspect that they think they have now “done their duty” by reporting some “breaking news” and will put it on the back burner. The reference to Peru and “Paris a year from now” points in that direction, and when the results of those conferences come out, they will probably get the quick “Oh look! (and ho-hum)” treatment as well.
Hey, kids–for extra points, please cite politicians who made any reference at all to climate catastrophe in the election (except in a ‘global warming is a hoax/conspiracy’ kind of way). And please, let’s see what JimInhofe, climate change denier par excellence, will do about climate change now that his party is taking the Senate and he will end up chairing important committees on science and environment.
The Arctic summer ice is gone by the end of this decade. Even immediate action can’t do a whole lot, but the people who are going to run things for at least two of the next six years aren’t going to pay attention to the problem except to deny there’s a problem.

Tony Abbott’s response to the IPCC:

And we think we have sick whacko conservative politicians in the U.S.? Abbott would fit in fine with our worst.
Abbott: “coal is the foundation of our prosperity” Replace ‘our’ with ‘my’ and you are there.

There were several, but the best example would be Gary Peters in Michigan (he did win):
