MAGA Emergency Response – Prayers, Paranoia, Chemtrail Conspiracies

Above, senior Meteorologist John Morales discusses the dangers of dismantling the National Weather Service and NOAA.

Below – MAGA response to this week’s flooding tragedy – It’s Chemtrails.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green says she has been “researching weather” (never a good sign) and has a solution, to keep Joe Biden and the Deep State from driving storms into Trump country.

Raw Story:

U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) in the wake of a devastating fatal flooding tragedy in Texas introduced a bill that is being seen as big win for conspiracy theorists.

Donald Trump’s administration has faced some blame in the wake of the Texas flood that swept through a girls’ camp and has led to an estimated 27 deaths.

Without mentioning the tragedy, Greene took to social media to announce a bill related to weather modification or so-called “chemtrails.” She has in the past directly posited weather modification conspiracy theories when deathly storms occurred.”

I am introducing a bill that prohibits the injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity. It will be a felony offense. I have been researching weather modification and working with the legislative counsel for months writing this bill. It will be similar to Florida’s Senate Bill 56. We must end the dangerous and deadly practice of weather modification and geoengineering,” she wrote. “This is not normal.”

She added, “I want clean air, clean skies, clean rain water, clean ground water, and sun shine just like God created it!!”

MAGA Candidate: Storms are All Fake

So don’t worry.

Raw Story:

A Georgia woman seeking a Republican nomination to represent her state in the U.S. House of Representatives is receiving an avalanche of criticism for responding to the tragic loss of life in Texas due to a flash flood as “fake.”

Kandiss Taylor, a MAGA adherent who recently ran to be Georgia’s governor, took to X on Saturday and wrote, “Fake weather. Fake hurricanes. Fake flooding. Fake. Fake. Fake,” as authorities in Kerr County, Texas continued to search for bodies.

Needless to say, she was harshly criticized as Texas reels from the flood that coursed through a girls’ camp.

Attorney Tracey Gallagher wrote, “Do your job Georgia… Is this the best you have got?”

“Hey Texas. What do you think of this? She’s running for congress as a Republican? Any thoughts?” former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) asked.

Charts Help to Understand the No Good, Horrible, Very Bad Bill

New York has a set of explanatory charts no the No Good, Horrible, Very Bad Bill.
You Tuber above walks thru them, I’ll post the ones relevant to this page, but go to the link if you want more.

New York Times:

Much like President Trump’s 2017 tax bill, it will add substantially to the deficit and the debt without providing any meaningful impetus to economic growth. But this time, it will be much worse. This legislation will pile about $3 trillion onto the deficit over the next 10 years, double the amount its predecessor was expected to generate. And it lacks provisions that could significantly boost economic growth.

Are Weather Service Cuts Already Killing?

YouTubers weigh in on impacts of cuts to the US Weather Service following last night’s catastrophic and deadly flooding in Texas.

In May, 5 former Directors of the National Weather Service published an open letter citing their concerns about cuts to Meteorological services:

NWS staff will have an impossible task to continue its current level of services. Some forecast offices will be so short-staffed that they may be forced to go to part-time services. Not only are there fewer forecasters, there are also fewer electronic technicians, who are responsible for maintaining the criticalĀ NEXRAD radars. Our worst nightmare is that weather forecast offices will be so understaffed that there will be needless loss of life. We know that’s a nightmare shared by those on the forecasting front lines — and by the people who depend on their efforts.

PBS on Heat as a Health Hazard

We’ve been pretty lucky here in Michigan, it’s been warm the last week, about t 6 to 10 degrees F above average, I think – but we’ve not had the same heat wave as other parts of the country.

PBS Newshour – you’ll miss it if it goes away – has a new piece on the health hazards of heat and humidity, above.

There was a similar piece in the very valuable PBS Terra Series a few months ago.

Texas Energy Evolution in Graphs

Josh Rhodes at University of Texas shared this graph of the changing energy mix in Texas over 20 years.
Reading from bottom to top, you can watch coal (orange) and nuclear (green) shrink, and to a lesser degree, natural gas (blue).
Wind and solar show dramatic growth, with solar now generating as much as coal.
Texas has its own grid, called ERCOT, separate from the rest of the country. Notably, it is the most “free market” based grid, maybe in the world – and has overwhelmingly been selecting solar, wind, and now batteries, in recent years.
Josh notes: “The ERCOT grid ran on ~50% clean energy for the first 5 months of the year”

Just in Time for the Holiday Picnic – Top 5 Climate Denial Myths Debunked

Took a few months for the YouTube algorithm to serve this up to me, but it’s very good.
A local station based in Bangor and Portland, Maine, put together this debunk of the top 5 climate change myths with their meteorologists as trusted messengers for the science – good communication practice, as TV mets are the scientists most known and trusted by general audiences.
Take a watch before you head out to that family picnic this weekend with that Fox Watching MAGA Uncle – we’ve all got one.
