Solar and Prairie Pollinators a Win-Win

Pretty great video about what has become standard practice around any solar farm, and in fact, mandated by law in Michigan – native plants and pollinators, which, this video maintains, create a 20 percent productivity bump in surrounding farm fields.

Research done at Argonne National Lab established that solar fields with such plantings show an explosion of insect and plant diversity, including a 20 fold increase in the numbers of native bees.

I’ll have some videos soon of the farmers actually making this happen.

  1. You have to distinguish between “nature lovers” who want to protect ecosystem habitats. vs. those that demand scenery to look good to humans.

While plastic, oil spills and toxic industrial waste are some nasty crap, forest critters don’t seem to have a problem with old glass bottles and cans, or rusty pipe, or remnants of concrete. China’s adding artificial nests on tall transmission lines to give them a safe alternative to them tripping the power, and getting occupation rates >70%.
