Trump Doubles Down on Denial

Trump gives a scrambled version of several Climate Denial Crocks in the passage above.
On the day when the Trumpian Supreme Court delivered the Fossil Fuel industry’s fondest wish, he riffed on themes of climate and clean energy denial.

Below, a thoughtful as usual take on electric aviation.

What is needed now is a much deeper sense of urgency.

  1. Sigh. As long as they show up at the ballot box this year (not certain), core Democratic voters aren’t going to decide this election. It’s the dumb dumbs ‘on the fence’ every cycle who choose the President – and they saw a too old President get slaughtered against that ‘box of rocks’. These voters largely don’t know policy or issues or how it relates to them – they vote based on gut instincts about a candidate’s personality or whether or not they ‘think’ that person will be a good President.

Here the things on Biden – he’s not going to get younger, and everyone knows that.

But sure, let’s pretend it’s the Democrats wanting the perfect over the good who are the problem. Let’s beat on that scapegoat instead of looking at the elephant in the room. Wheel Biden’s corpse out, and yes, the core voters will still vote for him. But what about everyone else?

I mean seriously, the opposing candidate is a convicted felon, a rapist, an insurrectionist, a compulsive liar, a con man, and corruption personified. The core Republicans will still support him.

But the battle every election is for the other voters – the undecideds. And what they saw a few nights ago was in every way a very bad indicator for the Democrats in this election.

With Trump as the opposing candidate, this SHOULD be an easy win for the Democrats. But, because of Biden’s age and because of performances like that (which doesn’t even qualify as ‘good’), the undecideds have a real quandary of where to go. Spinning the issue only goes so far.

    1. FWIW, Trump’s own performance lost him some support among Latinos, and Biden post-debate has been delivering solid campaign speeches.

Paradoxically, I think Old Man Biden has done a better job at USPresidenting than any of the others in the past 40 years. His Cabinet appointments (minus DOJ), cleaning up a lot of the crap that Trump left, getting on the ball with the pandemic, his finessing of Congress to get major legislation passed, his delivery of student debt relief despite SCOTUS and the House, his unprecedented support of labor unions, his leveraging of support for Ukraine, and modest progress on drug costs (insulin is a biggee).

NYT’s Sulzberger is still a pouting titty-baby about Biden not giving them an interview, but at least the Philadelphia Inquirer wasn’t afraid to go after Trump:
