This Kid at COP28 is All of Us

  1. When she was about 6 years old, Licypriya’s father started promoting her as a face of climate change activism. The child did well in front of cameras, and by age 8 her father was bringing her to an international conference and having her perform in public for the news media.

This isn’t climate activism. It is child abuse.

The father, we will not be surprised to learn, was arrested for a scams related to suckering well-meaning children and their families out of money. It also turned out that the awards and recognition that gave so much credibility and publicity to the elementary-school child’s resume came from organizations controlled by her father.

    1. I remember now, you didn’t like Greta much either – see the pattern. . .

Thunberg is a self-righteous hectoring twerp who has found out how to get attention.
I have trouble believing she is net positive for the movement to address climate change.

      1. Thank you! Self-righteous hectoring twerp describes Thunberg quite well. I read parts of her 2019 book, a collection of her speeches, when it came out. The speeches actually come off a trifle better in written form when not delievered in the hectoring cadences of Thunberg herself. But still they are rather off-putting.

If Thunberg is a net positive for the movement perhaps it was because people liked the idea of Thunberg, not because they paid much attention to her words.

        1. On the contrary, her clear, simple, honest words, forthright about climate & the immorality of world leaders, are half of what people pay attention to, and are moved by. The other half is her actions that are equally simple, honest & forthright.

What exactly is triggered in you when you hear young women criticizing men for their world-threatening psychopathy?

I didn’t want to bother replying to such a mean, petty, offensive spasm, but the downvote spot leaps away from me every time I try to click it.

  2. For heavens sake man – just because the kid has a criminal father, it does not mean his wife and daughter is also corrupt – in fact shame on you for trying to insinuate it and appeal to our basest of instincts without even providing any link. The link provided by another person suggests the father is locked up somewhere – but does not mention his wife or daughter. What’s the matter with you !!!!!

    1. Mboli’s comment was a complete negation of the girl’s own agency and of the positive aspects of her activism. Some kids are surprisingly precocious. This girl has apparently been very active in India. She hasn’t yet appeared to show any cracks that it’s all trained acting puppet-mastered by an abusive father.

The dad does seem to be a scumbag, granted.

      1. jimbills – I spent some time checking this out, I did find one media outlet claiming the girl was involved in a dubious activity when she was a mere 9 years old. Honestly, it wasn’t the most respectable media outlet – but when people are trying to muckrake (discredit) a nine year old Indian girl, like she was Donald Trump, or Joe Biden’s son, our planet has got pretty damn low in moral fiber. I feel sad that people can be some judgemental and wicked as this. Is WordPress even a decent place to discuss such worldly matters. I think Peter Sinclair deserves better after all the work and time he devotes to the topic. At 76 years of age I shed tears regarding the fight to shelter our future generations and the revolting despicable reaction of some of the older generation.

        1. There may be people muckraking about Licypriya (as they came down on Thunberg), but the criticism of her father is less about climate change than it is comparing him to obsessive child beauty pageant moms or Little League parents or any people who pressure children* to perform. That’s what mboli meant about her father’s actions being child abuse (even if he wasn’t skimming the donations his child’s appeals drew in).

          __________
*Granted that some children really are the attention-seeking impetus for some of these events.
