I remember with the lasting flooding of New Orleans’ City Park and elsewhere after Katrina wondering if the oak trees would survive that long in the water. Psychologically, it made a difference that they did (though it turned out that magnolia trees couldn’t survive that long a flood).

This Banyan is important but only 150 years old. It could be a bridge from the past in reality and psychologically. Or maybe it should just pass on…
This whole Lahaina tragedy might accelerate Hawaii away from its fossil fuel power plants, including 70% petroleum fired.
