Seeding Ravaged Forests from Drones

Cool technology.

Whether the process works to restore forests, and more importantly, sequester carbon, will tell us a lot about how carbon credits and a “net zero” approach will help to mitigate climate change.

  1. When people handwave about the S&P 500 as a measure of prosperity or growth in general, they conveniently leave out that over the history of the S&P 500 stocks that start to do poorly are replaced by stocks that are doing well.

(As of 2003, of all of the stocks in the original S&P 500, 94 were still in the index, 26 were still publicly traded (but had been kicked out) and 5 were in bankruptcy proceedings.)

In any case, people should stop using GDP (total prosperity) as a proxy for the well being of a country, as it does not take into account the distribution of wealth (like the Gini coefficient), or future prospects (well-maintained infrastructure).
