  1. Will this become commonplace? Nah, makes too much sense. Admit how stressed the grid is under fairly normal circumstances, never.

Of course it isn’t just the utilities that are planning using obsolete norms, many industrial-scale vendors are using 1950s-era specifications for creating pipes, pumps and tanks that have to operate under much hotter ambient conditions, more brackish flooding, etc.. Rather than those fabricators doing the evaluations to construct their products, individual engineers have to take into account the additional stresses and each do their own adaptive calculations and order up accordingly.
