Conspiracy theories are as American as Cherry pie. People have always believed bullshit.
I remember back in the pre-internet Stone Age, standing behind two older, midwestern women at a rally for a Republican candidate. They were staring at the peace symbol on a sign held up by protesters.
“Look,” one said, breathlessly, “..the Witches Foot!”
Climate Denial is the most mundane of conspiracy theories, but perhaps the deadliest.

An entertaining clip to start the day with—-except for the short segment showing what an insane “bullshitter” Alex Jones really is—-it’s disturbing to think that someone that sick actually has followers and makes a living off his sickness.
A guy I’ve known for decades seriously believed that the Democrats would rise up and cause a civil war in Hillary lost the election. He’s a big radio listener, has a group of friends that agree with each other, and so on. I’m pretty sure that was an Alex Jones thing.
I hadn’t seen him for a while and he told me what he thought in the weeks leading up to the election. I asked if he seriously believed it, and that ended that conversation.
I’m convinced people will believe anything – given they have the motivation for that belief.
AJ thinks that chemicals in the water are turning frogs gay, but I believe it’s a lifestyle choice!

Well said.
It *always* boils down to a conspiracy theory.
Jon Ronson has an interesting podcast episode about Alex Jones:
