I showed the video above to a group last night, and serendipitously could talk about the actual current weather conditions as a good example of what we expect to see more and more often in a changing world.
Current jet-stream set up features a strong “ridge” high over Alaska, diverting moisture away from the fires of California, while setting up a roller coaster for frigid air to pour down on to the Eastern US.
Hence early winter storms for Easterners while the west continues to suffer a longer than historical fire season.
Warm air has now swept into the DC Metro area and the 2 or 3 inches of snow (that wasn’t supposed to be that much) is melting nicely—we rely on the “Virginia Snow Shovel” heavily here (the sun), and it’s working. Yesterday was a mess, with much freezing rain, ice, closed schools, and morans running into each other. The heaviest November snowfall her in 29 years.
How many more years does the jet stream ridge phenomenon have to wreak havoc in both the east and west before anyone really pays attention? How much worse will it have to get in the Southeast and deep south particularly before the red staters learn the lesson?
DoG, the RedStaters won’t learn, because “learn’in” is not something they do. They double down on avoidance of thought when things get tough. Head in sand, and if that doesn’t work, head firmly all the way up backside.
The Blob is Back, and here in California we’re really suffering. Smoke has shut down the NorCal schools and any outdoor activity. I’m reading the death toll up to 63 and still 10x that many who are “missing” (Is this like the 10’s of thousands who are still “missing” after the 2004 Asian Tsunami?)
Steve McQueen in “The Blob” said we’d be safe… as long as the Arctic stays frozen. He was right.
Sympathies to all in CA who are choking—-relatives in Half Moon Bay reported that yesterday was the worst it’s been there—-they can’t go outside.
Article in WashPost today says that volunteer searchers are having trouble finding the missing because bodies have been burnt to dust and such small bone fragments that they can’t be seen in the debris, so many of the missing may truly never be found.
