Russians Swung Election to their Climate Denying Puppet. This Seems like News to Me.

Hello….Anybody? Anybody?

Washington Post:

On Nov. 7, the hashtag #pizzagate first appeared on Twitter. Over the next several weeks, it would be tweeted and retweeted hundreds or thousands of times each day.

An oddly disproportionate share of the tweets about Pizzagate appear to have come from, of all places, the Czech Republic, Cyprus and Vietnam, said Jonathan Albright, an assistant professor of media analytics at Elon University in North Carolina. In some cases, the most avid retweeters appeared to be bots, programs designed to amplify certain news and information.

“What bots are doing is really getting this thing trending on Twitter,” Albright said. “These bots are providing the online crowds that are providing legitimacy.”

Online, the more something is retweeted or otherwise shared, the more prominently it appears in social media and on sites that track “trending” news. As the bots joined ordinary Twitter users in pushing out Pizzagate-related rumors, the notion spread like wildfire. Who programmed the bots to focus on that topic remains unknown.

Here, Fake News Nutbag Alex Jones expresses admiration for Vlad Putin, Climate Denial, and “Lord” Christopher Monckton’s paranoid ravings.

Reuters:

Wildfires crackled across Siberia this summer, turning skies ochre and sending up enough smoke from burning pines to blot out satellite views of the 400-mile-long Lake Baikal.

To many climate scientists, the worsening fires are a consequence of Siberia getting hotter, the carbon unleashed from its burning forests and tundra only adding to man-made fossil fuel emissions. Siberia’s wildfire season has lengthened in recent years and the 2015 blazes were among the biggest yet, caking the lake, the “Pearl of Siberia”, in ash and scorching the surrounding permafrost.

But the Russian public heard little mention of climate change, because media coverage across state-controlled television stations and print media all but ignored it. On national TV, the villains were locals who routinely but carelessly burn off tall grasses every year, and the sometimes incompetent crews struggling to put the fires out.

While Western media have examined the role of rising temperatures and drought in this year’s record wildfires in North America, Russian media continue to pay little attention to an issue that animates so much of the world.

The indifference reflects widespread public doubt that human activities play a significant role in global warming, a tone set by President Vladimir Putin, who has offered only vague and modest pledges of emissions cuts ahead of December’s U.N. climate summit in Paris.

Russia’s official view appears to have changed little since 2003, when Putin told an international climate conference that warmer temperatures would mean Russians “spend less on fur coats” while “agricultural specialists say our grain production will increase, and thank God for that”.

The president believes that “there is no global warming, that this is a fraud to restrain the industrial development of several countries including Russia,” says Stanislav Belkovsky, a political analyst and critic of Putin. “That is why this subject is not topical for the majority of the Russian mass media and society in general.”

And with Russian media focused on the economic squeeze at home and events in Ukraine and Syria abroad, the absence of a robust media conversation on climate change means his scepticism goes largely unchallenged.

“It is difficult to spend editorial resources on things that are now a low priority in the midst of the economic crisis,” says Galina Timchenko, former editor-in-chief of the successful news site Lenta.ru. Timchenko now runs Meduza, a popular site that covers Russian news but devotes little space to climate issues.

“Unfortunately climate change is not very interesting to the public,” she says.

    1. I know. Putin seems all over the map on this – If anyone has a timeline or breakdown of his statements I’d be grateful

        1. “The fall in Russian emissions since 1991 has stopped 40 billion tons of carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere. These improvements are achieved through the use of breakthrough energy-saving solutions, such as nanotechnologies, as well as the introduction of regulatory measures.” That sounds like spin to me. The collapse of the Russian industrial production is the main reason for it’s decline in emissions. http://www.wri.org/blog/2015/04/russia%E2%80%99s-new-climate-plan-may-actually-increase-emissions

          1. Something tells me a Russian troll may have found this place.

Russia Beyond The Headlines (RBTH) Wiki page.
“Russia Beyond The Headlines or RBTH is a multilingual news and information resource that offers news, comment, opinion and analysis on culture, politics, business, science, and public life in Russia.

Russia Beyond The Headlines is also a Kremlim sponsored source of pro-Russian propaganda.”

          2. “Something tells me a Russian troll may have found this place.” – one of the schizophrenia-generated voices in your head, no doubt.

          3. No, I cited a credible journalism source that indicates your source is Russian state media propaganda. That is known as reality. Your behavior further indicates your possible statues.

So, describe Vladimir Putin as a man and leader in your own words. The honest truth as you see it.

      1. Having in-laws and friends in Russia, I would say there appears to be an absolute deficit of knowledge amongst the Russian public on the climate issue. Some say it’s not covered in the media at all, while others have the common fatalistic attitude of the average brow beaten Russian, struggling to survive in a rather dysfunctional society.

  1. Lindsey Graham is a war hawk and defense industry shill. He’s forgotten the question but he knows the answer is always more war. The NSA mass surveillance program is Constitutionally illegal, violating privacy rights, and is not being used to thwart terrorism (didn’t stop the Boston bombings) evidenced by the program’s own study, but instead to rat out journalists’ anonymous sources and for political maneuvers and whatnot according to Snowden. Here’s a little wiki excerpt of the guy that started the Russia is behind the attacks narrative:

On March 12, 2013, during a United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence hearing, Senator Ron Wyden quoted the keynote speech at the 2012 DEF CON by the director of the NSA, Keith B. Alexander. Alexander had stated that “Our job is foreign intelligence” and that “Those who would want to weave the story that we have millions or hundreds of millions of dossiers on people, is absolutely false…From my perspective, this is absolute nonsense.” Senator Wyden then asked Clapper, “Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?” He responded “No, sir.” Wyden asked “It does not?” and Clapper said “Not wittingly. There are cases where they could inadvertently, perhaps, collect, but not wittingly.”[30]

When Edward Snowden was asked during his January 26, 2014 TV interview in Moscow what the decisive moment was or why he blew the whistle, he replied: “Sort of the breaking point was seeing the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, directly lie under oath to Congress. … Seeing that really meant for me there was no going back.”

It would be interested to look at the polling timeline and see the effects of the news on the polls. Wikileaks put out the DNC stuff at the end of July, around the same time as the Dem Convention. Clinton actually rose in the polls around that time but after the post convention fever wore off started to slip back down, but not as much as she was down before all the wiki and convention stuff happened. I’m assuming that spike for Trump was the GOP convention and its exuberance didn’t last long, but he managed to gain about 4 points afterward. From their post primary lows Trump gained 6 points, whilst Clinton only gained 2 or 3, so there was a longer term trend happening favoring Trump. I think he out worked her – he was doing stadium sized tours left and right and going everywhere.

  2. Let me remind everyone here that the American founding fathers did not allow American citizens to directly engage in the democratic process because rank-and-file citizens were too busy living their lives to be properly informed. To quote Thomas Jefferson, the founding fathers’ prerequisites included “An educated citizenry (is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people)” and “a strong, free country and a strong, free press are inseparable”

First off 44% of the eligible USA voters did not vote. Secondly, Clinton received more than 2 million more votes than Trump, but the law of the land abides by the rules of the electoral college. Thirdly, the printed press has been under fire for more than a decade from both the internet as well as 5 corporate TV-news networks (ABC, CBC, NBC, CNN, Fox) so most modern people are very uninformed. It was these corporate outlets who decided things like “which candidates would be involved in the presidential debates”, etc. To make matters worse, back in February-2016 Les Moonves was reported to have said “Trump may not be good for America, but it’s damn good for CBS”. So corporate profits trump (no pun) American interests?

Then we learn from Wikileaks that the DNC worked behind the scenes to steal the Democratic nomination from Bernie Sanders to make way for Hillary Clinton. Many Americans think Wikileaks is a hacker site but we all know that is is only a publisher of whistle-blower information. I can only assume that the DNC email dumps came from concerned American citizens rather than foreign hackers.

Now let me switch to Occam’s Razor which basically says “when there are competing theories, the best one is usually the simplest”. I have listed a lot of things related to problems in the USA and so must ask myself “will blaming Russian hackers fix current American problems?”. If you don’t like the electoral college then change it (Americans tweaked it once before in the 23rd amendment).

    1. I think it could be a Russian hacker and am willing to weight it at 55%/45% that it was Russian in some capacity – some of the hacking signatures were similar to those of past Russian hacks (though why they would continue to use the same techniques after being outed is another debate); and we are crushing their economy right now with sanctions and competing in Syria over who’s pipeline gets to run from the ME to the EU. But I also assume Russian and Chinese and N Korean hacks are the norm and are constantly happening.

What I’m mostly concerned about is the red herring type distraction the establishment media is weaving with this and the narrative that Hillary would have won ‘if it just weren’t for those darn Russians’. We already knew Clinton was a corrupt insider with significant control of the media, of the political universe, of the DNC, and was for fracking, for the TPP, for the big banks, &c. All the emails showed is unrefutable evidence of what we already knew by examining her voting record and on the record commentary.

If we had a functional media, you’d have dozens of journalists running up to Clinton asking her why she says she’s against TPP after 55 instances of saying she was for it in the past; you’d have them hammering on her for being against the spirit of the Bankruptcy Bill before she was a senator, standing alongside E Warren, and then after running for senate and taking all that bank money, voting for the bill. Wikileaks would be irrelevant if our own media did its job. It was more likely new independent media had more influence on taking Clinton down than the wikileaks stuff; indeed it was Jordan at TYT politics that was reading through all the emails and took Donna Brazil down with some of them.

And in the end it came down to Clinton turning her back on the Rust Belt factory workers whilst Trump coddled them with talks of punitive tariffs for shipping jobs out of the country. Trump was out working little places in WI with rallies. Clinton thought she already had them on lock (or thought she would win Republicans in PA by sacrificing them) and didn’t bother to show up – the selfsame arrogance and entitlement that generally defined her poorly run campaign. Clinton and the Dems have become so elitist that they have abandoned their middle class base. That’s why they lost and will continue to lose in the future unless Warren and Sanders take leadership.

Look at this support for Sanders at the Convention:

        1. There is no evidence. This isn’t like science where ideas go through a rigorous falsification process. You can only weight likelihoods based on circumstance. The circumstance is the US is waging an economic war on Russia and is killing their economy. The circumstance is Clinton wanted to put no fly zones in Syria to shoot down Russian planes. If a Russian hacker came upon the DNC info and passed it along to those higher up then likely they would have passed it along to Wikileaks; but it’s just as probable that they acted as an independent agent, circumnavigating the government. And when it comes to expert level hacking there’s no way to trace who did it. You can only guess based on the techniques used. But based on the circumstances I weight it at 55% of some sort of Russian involvement arbitrarily.

          1. It involves trusting intelligence officials that have a poor track record of telling the truth on the back drop of a media that has zero interest in investigative journalism or holding the government accountable but instead just acts as a stenographer and loudspeaker for the Pentagon.

  3. The Russian excuse it garbage to hide the real issues pissing off Americans, Everyone already knew Hillary was a crook long before this and books and videos have been made on the topic, the issues were and are the Economy ,loss of Industries , out of control illegal Immigration and elite backlash and change itself from the current status quo.

The Polls were total garbage and the MSM is and was so pro Dem everyone with a brain knows this and the Polls were manipulated constantly to support Clinton, it was as all you heard constantly trying to suppress the Rep vote.

There are 4 facts that everyone ignores

1 – The American people as a whole are totally ignorant on Climate change thanks in part to the Monopolistic practices of the Oil industry and MSM and Wall Street establishment. ( have you ever wondered why the MSM does not enlighten America on climate change ?) The Dems have no interest in change they only give it lip service.

2-The American lifestyle itself has no interest in change and the US will do nothing substantial to fixing anything until there is a Pearl harbor like event

3-Neither Party right now will do anything about Climate change and the left leaning progressives here are kidding themselves. The Democrats are perhaps the best party on the planet at using controversial topics to win votes but doing absolutely nothing to fix the issues instead they just try to seize control and establish there own Crony Capitalism. Socialist health care in the USA will never work as American corporate and political greed is way out of control compared to other countries. Again this is the Greedy Monopolistic practices and failure to enforce anti abuse laws to stop those that milk the system.

4-Both parties when in power have installed the same types of Wall Street power brokers and elitists in there cabinets, that’s the proof

The only thing that could give power back to the people in the USA is ANTI Monopolistic and ANTI Globalist law enforcement and not just against the OIL industry, against the insurance , Military industrial complex the Big Pharma etc.
This is barely on the table with Trumps promises and Bernie’s remarks, but Bernie never really had a chance, that’s the Difference between the Dems and the Reps. Trump an outsider won against his own party.

The reason I support Trump is I believe we need to bring industry back to the USA or at least be PRO industrial so when climate change hits big time we can deal with it promptly and doing this damages the GLOBALIST corporate culture which already has too much centralized power. We need to bring power back to the USA where it can set policy to solve the issue (too late maybe) China and Asia etc are out of control and out of bounds….

If you hate Trump good for you, I am not as deceived by political propaganda as all you left Dem supporters are , when will you all wake up to the fact nothing changes. I suspect Al Gore was the best Dem chance we had maybe, and maybe he will make a come back one day.

If your a Bernie supporter or part of Trumps movement which he tapped into then you should wake up to the fact its the people as a whole who are sick of establishment, corruption and monopolies, and both want outsider change. The divisiveness in the USA over most of the other unimportant topics is ridiculous.

  4. Puppet? Trump is a puppet? The hacking brought out the truth of how Hillary and the DNC operate behind closed doors and that is wrong? Nobody denies the truth of the emails. Trump is a billionaire many times over, Putin does not have enough to make Trump a puppet and anybody with a brain knows that. What has all the fools and liberals foaming at the mouth is their Queen, lost.

The russian state hacking claim has been backed up with zero evidence, only a bunch of news feeding on itself and put out by that same DNC which stole the election primary from Sanders.
