  1. It is a whole lot warmer up there (East and West) than many realize. For example, 4-weeks ago it was announced that temperatures in Greenland were a full 10C (16F) higher than they should have been. In Greenland this leads to melt water. Elsewhere it can lead to fire depending upon moisture levels.


    1. Fire is one of those decidedly non linear factors. Burning off a paddock goes from being nearly impossible to nearly uncontrollable with just the tiniest change in conditions, particularly wind. Even experts have had problems with controlled burns becoming uncontrollable.
