Interesting presentation. I wonder whether the gap Aug-Nov at +0.7 is the 1997/98 El Nino.
Who cares what the graph shows about the 97-98 El Nino., GUB?
What you should be “wondering” about is where the 2016 line is headed. Focus on the postage stamp sized area in the upper left corner.
Or the slowdown in rate of increase after ’98?
I’m not following that. A larger gap with this interesting presentation means increased warming. Wait, I think I’ve got you. It might be 2000,2001 below the gap along with 1996 and earlier. Difficult to detect specific years with the colour-coded method. Still an interesting presentation with its individual months for 167 years.
Why are GUB and FP getting wrapped around the axle and engaging in gratuitous navel-gazing as they try to parse some special significance from a small part of a rather broad-brush presentation of data?
The graph shows that the planet has indeed warmed by over 1 degree since 1870. The “color coding” shows that it has been a steady increase and the last 20 years have been the worst. There have been “ups and downs”, but the trend has been clear and we saw it coming. No new news there.
I will repeat—-LOOK AT THE 2016 LINE!!!—-that IS new news and is worth talking about.
The 2016 line should have flames leaping from it!
