DeCaprio’s Oscar Speech – Climate Change is Real

As I show on this page, and here as well, Ted Cruz, the most hated man in America, is now the face of climate denial.

A leading voice affirming the science of climate change, Leonardo DeCaprio, just won the Oscar for best Actor, and gave an impassioned plea for climate action last night. DeCaprio has also been a strong supporter of our Greenland work with the Dark Snow Project.

Yeah, I know. Hollywood people, yadda yadda.
I’ll take it.

DeCaprio foundation funding announcement from last year is below. We still need continuing support for future efforts, but this was a huge affirmation.

  1. Very good. But…. I didn’t need to see him being mauled by a bear for 5 solid MINUTES! 30 sec woulda gotten the point across.

    1. Yeah, congrats on winning—-he’s a good guy on CC and is willing to put his money where his mouth is. He has worked long and hard to earn an Oscar and come close many times.

That said, NO ONE needed to see the prolonged bear mauling OR the very bad science that made me crazy as I watched the film—-the complete denial of the existence of a phenomenon called “hypothermia” (to say nothing of “keep your powder dry”). Now that they’ve done the “fiction”, they need to do a documentary titled “Why no one froze to death making Revenant”.

      1. The bear mauling looked pretty realistic to me. I constantly thought about hypothermia and frostbite too during the movie, but you can’t deny he did a great job with the acting. And I was really impressed that he took his short amount of time at the podium to talk about something that’s clearly very imprtant to him. His stance on climate science is really awesome, and that he puts his neck out there so publically, that’s something I respect a whole lot. And that aside from the fact that he’s a brilliant actor.

  2. Kate, Did you stay up late enough to hear DeCaprio’s acceptance speech? If not, check it out and think about putting it on the web page. Tom

    1. Saw that talk and enjoyed it, but was sorry to see so much bright-sidedness at the end. Short-term-growth hockey-sticks and apples -and-oranges examples do not make a long term trend, and COAL-INDIA-CHINA and fossil fuel in general is still the near term reality. I guess Gore’s trying to not be a “doomer” and instead give people something to be happy about, but IMO he overreaches more than a little here.

  3. Hahahahahaha! YouTube has been duped into blocking the video. This is the future of public discourse. Corporate trolls will rule. Free expression of ideas will be held up as the ideal while being undercut behind the scenes.
