In case anyone was wondering where I’ve been, this has been in the oven for the last few days.
In coming days, we will hear announcements from NASA, NOAA and others that
2015 was the hottest year in the modern instrumental record.
There will be pushback from the likes of climate denier Ted Cruz, who
uses a misreading of satellite temperature data to claim, as he did
on Seth Meyer’s show – “no warming in 18 years”

As a scientist, I have no interest in any earth GLOBAL temperature prior to the year 2000 with one exception. What is the correlation between earth-based and satellite based temperatures among the large ups and downs during the 1960 to 2000 period? Was there a good correlation?
The most important data in the prediction of FUTURE trends has got to be the current trend. THAT trend must be the only subject of discussion. The 2015 temperature in Los Angeles, Canada, or Mexico has NO meaning on GLOBAL TEMPERATURE!
IF there is good correlation between Earth Based and satellite measurement prior to 2000, but now a variance is showing up we must ask ourselves which of the two methods has been the subject of MANIPULATION that changes the trend slope?

What kind of “scientist” are you John? Since you are a signatory to the Oregon Petition, may we assume you are most likely an engineer? Or like the majority of petition signers who are actually “scientists” of some irrelevant sort, that you have no expertise in climate science and have other motives for commenting here? As in being a denier and a whore for the fossil fuel interests? The following quote from John tells us all we need to know about that, and John has been spouting similar BS for years in many places.
