Music Break: Major Lazer & DJ Snake – Lean On

It’s catchy.

Raw Story:

Going by Spotify’s revelation that the most-streamed song – not just of of 2015 but of all time – was Lean On, The Atlantic was able to declare the Major Lazer/DJ Snake/MØ collaboration the most 2015-iest song of the year.

Lean On is something of a catchy cultural mish-mash – a Danish singer, a French Rapper, an American/Trinidadian electronic dance music trio, and a music video shot in India.

But does being very much of its time and massively popular equate to emblematic or iconic musical status? As stand-in for the sound of a whole year?

In case you were wondering, there’s also a video teaching the Bollywood dance moves seen above.  If you’re hunkering down for an ice storm, like I am, this could keep you occupied.

      1. Oh, I remember those years all too well and wish I could forget.
Thankfully, there are no pictures of me wearing a ( i kid you not ) “Disco Kid” t-shirt just a couple years before I discovered Supertramp, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes and the Rolling Stones.

I’ll see your Disco Inferno and raise you a Disco Duck

      2. Also check out the chart performance of each song

        Disco Inferno –

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_Inferno#Chart_performance_2

        Disco Duck – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_Duck#Charts

Yes, the Duck was no 1, 3, 4, 6 or 7 on any chart that mattered back then.
The Inferno couldn’t turn the heat up past #11 and sat well below that in some markets.

And that pretty much sums up the ’70s as I remember them.

  1. Gee I happen to really like the barefoot dancing girls and all. Can’t see any problems at all with that at all!

I will see you that video and raise you this one… which has a kind of climate-ish theme….
