Preparing the Kit for Greenland

I’ve got a week to review and upgrade my video kit next week’s jump to Greenland, so I spent some welcome time outside over the weekend playing with video cameras and time lapse sequences.

Here are some raw results, which are pretty interesting in themselves, showing rolling clouds of moisture as my local corner of the upper midwest slipped out of a cool snap, and into a warm, humid regime normal for July.

  1. Peter – It’s exciting to know someone who is one of the ‘boots on the ground’ in Arctic research. Good luck getting ready for Greenland. I’m confident I speak for many when I say we’re looking forward to your updates.

    1. thanks. we may not have internet connection from the ice, so might not have an update for a few weeks.

  2. Are you going there again this year? I hope so as you vision of what is going on is priceless. Joy and I will be moving, within eight weeks, to a house we bought in Springfield, Missouri, 1/4 miles from our son and his family. The Houston house has been sold in to the present oil/gas bubble.

  3. Hi Peter, best wishes to you with the trip.

Hey – on the time lapse, those are looking good. One thing I’d recommend is a graduated neutral density filter (which, I know, costs money):

You can also create the same thing using an action or filter in Photoshop on all the files. The end result using either the camera filter or the Photoshop action/filter would be a richer and more dramatic sky.
