Perhaps they were deliberately left out to avoid “turning off” the willfully ignorant? If they had been used, many would have tuned out from that point forward. If you really wanted to push the “off” button, you would say “Weather systems are stalling, just as AL GORE predicted……” CLICK
The word “unusual” was used many times, and “warming” and “warm”, so perhaps the subtle approach will get through. This is exactly the “something weird is going on with the weather” approach that got my Tea Party neighbor thinking about global warming (at least briefly).
Paul Douglas has become a favorite of mine. I don’t fault him for not beating people over the head at every opportunity about global warming being something we humans are responsible for. He’s got a very well articulated and very public stance on the issue:
I’m fondly reminded of one comment he made a few months about about climate change deniers. To paraphrase, Douglas said that their level of stupidity was simply not worth arguing with. It was a lovely put-down. Extending that thought, the recent presentation on weather and climate at the Breckenridge Summit by Dr. Jim White (U-Colo) included a zinger. Asked about climate change denialists, Dr. White said the denialists were akin to two year olds who were having a tantrum about not getting their way no matter what the consequences of their bad behavior happened to be.
exactly. Hence my opinion, based on long observation, that climate denial, especially the extreme libertarian “you are not the boss of me” variety, stems from faulty toilet training.
Oh, the irony. As adults, the infamous denialist Koch Brothers have decided to distribute a multitude of branded toilet papers. And still they can’t get the stink off their hands.
Climate…Weather, which is it.
It’s both, dube, depending on which end of the spyglass you’re looking through.
I wish the words Global warming or climate change could be squeezed into these presentations
