Help Me Judge Student Video PSA Spots on Climate Change

The Erb Institute is a cooperative effort between the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, and the UM School of Natural Resources and Environment. It is an emerging hotbed of innovators interested in  business initiatives for sustainable development.

Since crashing an Erb event a few years ago, to interview Mike Maccracken and Katharine Hayhoe, I’ve maintained communication with Erb director Andy Hoffman, and even presented there myself in September.

Now the Institute is sponsoring an online contest for budding climate communicators – there are 13 videos posted for review, and the public is invited to judge and vote on their choices.  I’ve embedded one at the top – the rest are at the link.

    1. “Climate change IS about cutting back”??
Not for everyone and it certainly would be beneficial to a lot of people is we did cut back.
But “cutting back” isn’t necessary for every scenario – being more efficient is and shouldn’t that be a worthwhile goal in and of itself?

  1. It’s not helpful to keep focusing on “lifestyle changes”. We need massive organized programs at the National and Global level. People need to stop thinking they personally are “doing their part” by turning off the lights when they leave the house. Each person’s individual contribution to climate change is inconsequential compared to the impacts caused by massive industrial processes and systemically-entrenched “growth” (ie destruction) based economies.
Stop messing around with these namby pamby messages. Get out in the street and protest. Work to change the conversation, put pressure on rulers and live in integrity by taking a real stand for truth.
What if there is no solution, no way to stop catastrophic warming? That may be the case. Let’s face the truth bravely, even joyfully, with our friends, raising our voices for what we know to be right.
I continue to be an activist not because I think I will succeed in “changing the world”, but because it’s the right thing to do and it places me within my tribe of rad, spunky, fun, smart people.
The corporate state is rife with corruption. It’s stinking rotten. We work on multiple causes that get at the Radical truth, which is the collusion between corporations and the government. We need to break down this delusional story that is keeping people in line. Rock the boat, get in the street, make a statement, do whatever you do best, where your skills lie.
I’m an artist, so that’s how I work, with art messaging. We’re beginning work on a “Climate Chaos” awareness project I’ll share the photos.
