Tropical Cyclone Anomaly?

What I found worthy of further investigation is the Global ACE bar chart which shows 2012 on track to be the least energetic cyclone year in the series. Could it be that somehow global warming is is suppressing cyclones? Is the diminishment of temperature variations between the tropics and the Arctic stripping the energy out of wind circulation patterns?
