Brutal Wind Blast puts Bucharest in Blender

Just one example of this summer of extremes.

Watch the revolving doors of this downtown building spinning in the wind.
I’m guessing this is beyond normal.

  1. One of the split trees pictured had obvious rot.
Of course large limbs healthy trees could come off, or trees with shallow roots fall over, but people should get their big trees checked out, possibly adding cabling and bracing for any that are near a structure.

  2. Today I learned the distinction between the term squall line and derecho: A derecho is a great big squall line that is 100km (~60mi) wide and covers a swath of at least 650km (~400mi).

Bucharest is in a wide river valley which is not quite big enough to ever qualify for a derecho.
