Everything this guy says sums up the gathering consensus as I’ve heard it over that time.

That was a shocking program (even though I live, in Canada, I watch the PBS news every day). Here’s what jumped out at me: they were talking about the current rate of SLR (sea level rise) being 4.5 mm/year (or 17.7 inches per century if the rate does not increase).
But on this page ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_level_rise#Tide_gauges ) we read this quote “For the 20th century the average was 1.7 mm/yr” which translates into 6.7 inches per century.
Guy on camera spreads the lie that Paris was to keep it under 1.5.
Paris set the level at 2C and suggested voluntary actions that could not possibly keep the Earth under…3? 5? Higher? Then it set up a review system for every 5 years, waaaay too late to do anything if it—somehow—turned out to not be enough.
1.5 was desired by more than 100 countries on the front lines, but the US—almost certainly with the approval of the other rich countries—bribed, bullied, browbeat, and extorted them to accept several levels of assurances of failure including 2C.
A defense-in-depth against the mbillionaires having to give up any of the rate of increase of their fortunes or share of the world’s wealth.
Sea level rise along the eastern seaboard is much higher than the global average.
My standard whine:
All “sea level” is local.
Let’s see that again: All sea level is local.
Total sea water volume could remain the same but lots of conditions affect how high the sea is against a particular part of shore.
– Crustal rebound after a massive glacier loss happens much more slowly than it takes the ice to melt. Norway has been been rising (isostatic rebound) since the last glacial maxium, but locally it is perceived as sea level going down.
– Mass/gravitational shifts around the earth affect local sea levels
– Major currents moving away from shore tend to pull water away from coasts.
– Natural slump along the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico lowers land
– Damming of rivers reduces sediment flow that builds up coasts (Texas).
– Long term fluid extraction (water, oil, gas) makes land subside (Houston).
– Part of the Italian coast is over a fluctuating magma chamber that is the geological equivalent of a trampoline
