The Drumlins of Uummannaq: Jason Box with a History Written in Stone

Great to see this new report from Jason Box in Uummannaq, (umanak) a lonely outpost on the west Greenland coast, where I sputtered through a bout of walking pneumonia in 2015, about this time of year.
It’s about as remote and spectacular a terrain as one could imagine.

  1. Interesting – and while watching this the question that popped into my head is “I wonder which permanent human settlement on earth is farthest from any tree?” “Permanent” as meaning a place where there are families, so Antarctic bases don’t count.

But there’s the tree line in the polar regions, as well as some pretty vast grasslands and deserts. And Uummannaq.
