Attorney and Climate Science Defender: Unpacking the Mann Verdict

If you’ve been following the news, you know that last week, Climate scientist Michael Mann won a million dollar award against science denial grifter (and Lounge Singer) Mark Steyn.

I called on longtime friend Lauren Kurtz, who is an attorney and Executive Director of the Climate Science Legal Defense Fund (check their website and consider a contribution)
At top, I asked for a thumbnail description of the 12 year progress of this case – she responded with a miracle of compression.

The judgement was for one dollar in Compensatory Damages, and one Million in Punitive Damages. I asked Lauren to unpack that.

Key point: the War on Science continues, and we have seen it expand to multiple disciplines, wherever monied interests find themselves at odds with data.

Below, Kurtz told me how scientists are being targeted for “defaming” internet trolls and other grifters.

I asked Kurtz where the Mann case goes from here.
Both sides are pursuing appeals, for different reasons

  1. Did the Climate Science Legal Defense Fund pay for Mann’s brilliant attorneys? Money well spent. Lauren should be proud of herself and her organization.
