  1. Coffee and cacao seem like excellent candidates for GMO research, which is faster than testing random genetic hybrids. If the genetic features that produce Liberica’s tolerance of higher temperatures can be added to Arabica, or if the genetic features that product Arabica’s preferred flavor can be added to Liberica, that would be a major win for the country (rather than corporation) that developed it.

    Sadly, the anti-GMO activists have been conflating the science of GMO with the corporate intellectual property controls associated with private development. (Anti-GMO is especially bad in Europe, which may be a response to Monsatan‘s monopolies.)
