After a 4 year out-of-body experience, America is back.

less than half way to where we need to be, i.e. on a path to limiting warming below 2C (let alone the more stringent 1.5C many are now calling for). So Paris is a good starting point, but we need to go well beyond Paris now to achieve the reductions that are necessary.

At brunch in downtown DC — You could hear the pings of alerts go off. A collective quiet, people reading. Then, like a switch, everyone burst out in loud cheers. Server started jumping up and down and cars are honking.

And I mean that. I truly welcome everyone to celebrate this moment, especially Republicans who know in their hearts that hatred, anger, and dishonesty are not the way @JimAntal @billmckibben @KHayhoe

I don't want unity. I want a habitable planet and kids who aren't in cages. I want justice.

“Come senators, congressmen, Please heed the call, Don’t stand in the doorway, Don’t block up the hall. For he that gets hurt, Will be he who has stalled, There’s a battle outside raging. It’ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls, For the times they are a-changing!”

At the end of the day Republicans voted for Biden while continuing to vote Republican down ballot. Even they knew America would not survive another 4 years of Trump.

As the op-eds and punditry start moralizing about reaching out to comfort and coddle his supporters, just keep in mind 70 million people and counting knowingly voted for a second term for this guy: pic.twitter.com/Oge0COOD9a

I shared some thoughts with Buzzfeed about how I’m feeling today. I’m so grateful that the scientific community will be able to get back to our mission of service. And I hope we always remember: there’s no standing on the sidelines. https://t.co/HT0tfY8yrf

Yes, we may defeat Sauron, Sarumon and the Nazgul this November. But the Orcs will remain, and we will need to do battle with them for years to come.#VoteBlueToSaveAmerica

Hallelujah!
NYC just came alive!!
?? Is the pandemic over ??
I know you’re looking for a reason to mock them, and support your views about Democrat stupidity, but they are all wearing masks in Times Square, they are separating, and there are fewer there right now than were Trump protesters in Arizona a few days ago, few of whom were wearings masks:
https://www.cbsnews.com/video/pro-trump-protesters-rally-outside-arizona-ballot-counting-facility/#x
Now we have to wait two months while Trump does absolutely nothing about the pandemic except pretend it’s not there.
we are still in a dark time but there is a light to walk to
II watched his speech tonight, and mostly liked it, although it seems we are heading towards to an era of little progressive change as we try to compromise with the far right. It’s better than what we had the last four years, granted, but the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t particularly bright to my eyes.
Here’s the best op-ed I’ve seen about the election and Biden’s win so far:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/nov/07/trump-defeat-election
And a companion piece:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/07/us/politics/aoc-biden-progressives.html
It’s really – what happens after this?
Apologies for the multiple posts. I recognize it might be annoying. But here’s another worth mentioning on what’s important moving forward:

Varoufakis fails to understand the racial aspects of Trumpism (if one looks at the numbers, Biden only beat the white vote that went to Trump by surpassing it with a high minority turnout), but he’s dead on with one very important point – the reason why so many disaffected lower middle class (and largely white) voters supported him is that they saw a Democratic party coddle the most powerful elites in our country for decades. A return to that in a Biden administration would only spell more disaster in the years ahead for a progressive agenda.
George Harrison wrote a song for this day . . . I’ve been patiently waiting for is it really 4 years.
