Australian PM Morrison: A Lump of Coal to Parliament

In 2017 now-Prime Minister Scott Morrison brought a lump of coal to Parliament, to complain about “coal-phobia”.

Mr Morrison took a Hawaiian vacation just as the current wildfire catastrophe broke out, and has been stingy to firefighters.

Below, firefighter refuses to shake Morrison’s hand during his goodwill visit to a fire scorched area.

  1. One of my climate-denier buddies is always banging on about the number of coal-fired power plants being built/run in China. Whether any of us thinks that the number is large or small, China’s actions are enabled by the activity of other countries who enable this activity. Here, I am referring to the actions of their immediate large neighbor, Australia. Now we’re not so naïve as to think that ending coal production in Australia will change their fire situation any time soon, or even in the next decade, because humanity has ridden this problem too far down the metaphorical track without doing a damn thing other than talking about it. (I saw a stat the other day showing world-wide CO2 emissions increasing up to, and including 2018; there were no numbers available for 2019 so I’d bet a week’s pay that CO2 levels increased again). So we people in the West may just shrug our collective shoulders thinking “too bad for them but at least we’re okay”. But like that quote in front of the U.N., someday soon disaster will come for us.

    1. Australia is world’s biggest exporter of coal. And the country is just preparing a new mega project: The Adani’s Carmichael mine which will…

      * Destroy the ancestral lands, waters and cultures of Indigenous people without their consent.
      * Allow 500 more coal ships to travel through the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area every year for 60 years.
      * Get access to 270 billion litres of Queensland’s precious groundwater for 60 years, for free.
      * Risk damaging aquifers of the Great Artesian Basin.
      * Add 4.6 billion tonnes of carbon pollution to our atmosphere
