Sadly and ironically coal mining was a respectable way the working classes could make a reasonable living back then. The irony is that less than ten years later the neoliberal reformist conservative government, under Maggie, were at tota; war with the miners, and their ideas for the good life. It’s been downhill ever since. What happened to the good old days of the 70’s I wonder ?
Reminder to Americans: In the UK, “liberals” are more like what we’d call “libertarians” here.
