  1. How does this work again? A winter and spring of heavy rains stimulates lush plant growth, temperatures of 110 degrees and little rain in the summer dries it all out, and that leads to runaway wildfires in the fall. And AGW exacerbates all of this. When will we start putting the pieces together?

  2. Having watched the devastation of the recent hurricanes, especially in the Caribbean, now seeing parts of California looking remarkably like Hiroshima and Nagasaki after a relatively recent war event, I agree with Jon it is difficult to find words. It is also difficult to remain civil to those who insist it’s all a debate.

  3. Pardon for going off topic somewhat, but I remember last year Peter featured a pianist playing a piano in the Arctic (Ludovico Einaudi -Elegy for the Arctic) during one of his “music breaks”. Also remember “Andrewfez” (who I believe lives around the San Francisco region) posting an interesting piece that that he had composed.

I find the music piece in this attached story that I have just read and listened to quite stirring and full of interest with a touch of discord and menace.

    so posted for musical interest,

The Odd, Disconcerting Music of Climate Change

San Francisco scientists and musicians are creating experimental compositions based on real climate data.

There’s a reason the project warns that due “the serious nature of the underlying topic, we feel that ClimateMusic is most appropriate for adults and youths 12 years and older.” But its founder, Stephan Crawford, is adamant about not pulling punches. “We wanted to make it as immersive as possible,” he says, “because you really want people to viscerally gain a personal understanding of the issue.”

  4. Right next to the drone footage of devastated Northern California at the front of BBC’s world news are horrific pictures of floods in Vietnam.

This is a very devastating and unstable period.

HANOI: Floods caused by a tropical depression in Vietnam killed 37 people, one of the highest death tolls recorded in the country from flooding, the disaster prevention agency said on Thursday.
Forty people were missing and 21 others were injured after rains caused landslides and flooding, mostly in northern and central Vietnam.
“Our entire village had sleepless nights…it’s impossible to fight against this water, it’s the strongest in years,” Ngo Thi Su, a resident in northwestern Hoa Binh province, was quoted as saying by state-run Vietnam Television (VTV).

There behind a glass is a real blade of grass
    be careful as you pass.
    Move along! Move along!
Come inside, the show’s about to start
guaranteed to blow your head apart
Rest assured you’ll get your money’s worth
The greatest show in Heaven, Hell or Earth.
You’ve got to see the show, it’s a dynamo.
You’ve got to see the show, it’s rock and roll”
