  1. I assume the spam bots focused on taking down Nye, and science generally, are at least partly of Russian origin. The last thing their petro dictator Putin wants is American policy based on science, especially the science of global warming.

  2. Let me clarify one point from Bill’s speech:

Article I, Section 8, Clause 8, of the United States Constitution grants Congress the power “To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries.”

Here, the phrase “useful arts” is 1787 speech for “engineering”. No one knows how much latitude was given when interpreting this “first article” clause (does it “only” support copyrights or was it “also” used to justify the creation of the American National Academy of Sciences by Abraham Lincoln, or DARPA and NASA by Dwight D. Eisenhower?). Whatever your personal opinion on this subject, the whole world is better off because of American the investment in NASA (specifically project Apollo) spun off technologies which were employed by DARPA to produce new technologies including the Internet (which you are using to read this note).

  3. BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY!

Always a leader. Proud to be an engineer, along with him.

“Science is universal. Science brings out the best in us.”
