Citing unnamed, (ie nonexistent) “experts”, Inquisitor Lamar Smith of the House Science Committee engages in hallucinatory arm waving in attempting to convince Miami residents that the water around their ankles is completely normal.
Washington, D.C. – Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) today released the following statement after President Obama delivered a speech this morning before the U.N. climate change conference in Paris blaming climate change for recent flooding in Miami, Florida. The president stated, “You go down to Miami and when it’s flooding at high tide on a sunny day, the fish are swimming through the middle of the streets, there’s costs to that.”
Chairman Smith: “The president’s statement that Miami flooding is linked to climate change is entirely false and in fact disputed by meteorologists at the National Weather Service. The experts have reported that the lunar cycle and wind patterns are to blame for unusually high floods in Miami, not climate change. The fact is there is little evidence that climate change causes extreme weather events. The president is ignoring the facts and misleading the American people in order to advance his extreme climate change agenda.”
Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Florida) is a leading cosponsor of H. Res. 424, a new Republican-led resolution expressing the commitment of the House of Representatives to identify potential consequences of a changing climate to the United States, and to develop science-based and economically-viable solutions to mitigate or reduce those threats.
South Florida is projected to be especially impacted by sea-level rise linked to changing global climate patterns. Data from the National Ocean and Atmospheric Association suggests that sea levels in our area have already risen approximately nine inches over the last century.
Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:
“We know sea levels have risen substantially in recent decades. As South Floridians, we should be concerned about the projected threat from future sea-level rise if we are to avoid the worst impacts to our livelihoods and to our region’s economic vitality. That’s a job I take seriously as a policymaker, and I’m proud to stand with my colleagues in the House of Representatives who understand what’s potentially at stake and who recognize the leading role Congress must play in shaping a better future for all communities across our great nation.”

Isn’t it remarkable that a species capable of creating the incredible art and depth of genuine understanding of our selves and our world – everywhere and in all countries and in all times, empowers or tolerates the empowerment of the worst examples of our species? This is the most remarkable thing about human beings that I have encountered. It simply takes one’s breath away. It shows no indication of every changing. In fact, it’s quite possible we’ll huddle into bunker mentality fear and go backwards as things go south at an accelerating rate.
WOW!, and WOW again to Lamer’s newest letter! Talk about doubling down on a bad hand of cards. Lamer (or the hidden fossil fuel lobbyists on his committee staff) are just not going to give up on this witch hunt.
I have to laugh at their concept of “good faith” and what it means to “negotiate”. Those of us that sat on negotiating committees for teacher’s unions back in the 1960’s recognize this language. Freely translated, it means “Give us what we want or we’ll bury you in crazy horseshit”. The only antidote for us was to stick to the truth and wait for public perception of their foolishness to rein them in. Lamer and his boys are going to ride this one to their doom.
I have been using “Lamer” in my Crock comments about Smith since the get-go. I wasn’t aware of the full definition in all its meanings, but just the “”dull, stupid, inept, or contemptible person” part says it all, IMO. Thank you.
It totally makes sense that entire cities would be built in the water and that nobody who was building and living there EVER noticed the water around their ankles while they were building those cities! You betcha!
