Martin O’Malley on Climate Change

More in the series as Presidential Candidates weigh in on Climate change.  Sad that Martin O’Malley is not invited to communicate this message more often on the mainstream media. He proposes a 100 percent renewable grid by 2050.

I’m not aware of any broad discussion of the climate component of this refugee crisis on mainstream television. If anyone has seen that, send me a link.

Description:

In July, presidential candidate Martin O’Malley made headlines by suggesting that the rise of the so-called Islamic State came about in part because of the effects of climate change. “One of the things that preceded the failure of the nation-state of Syria and the rise of ISIS was the effect of climate change and the mega-drought that affected that region,? wiped out farmers, drove people to cities, created a humanitarian crisis. It created the symptoms, or, rather, the conditions, of extreme poverty, that has led now to the rise of ISIL and this extreme violence.” Republican Party Chair Reince Priebus called the remarks “absurd.” We get O’Malley’s response.

  1. An impressive job by O’Malley. Aside from slightly “brightsiding” his accomplishments in MD (I was watching him from across the Potomac), he has shown here that he has perhaps the best understanding of AGW among any of the candidates. We shall see where he goes, but I am afraid he is going to be another Huntsman. Perhaps he will push Sanders and Clinton into stronger positions on AGW before he goes.

As fro Reince Priebus, the best that can be said about him is that he is a science-ignorant non-entity and Repugnant stooge with a rather absurd-sounding name.

  2. He talks the talk, but Martin O’Malley approved fracking regulations as governor of Maryland, said fracking could be done safely and approved the mega gas-fired power plant for Dominion’s fracked-gas liquefaction and export facility at Cove Point. After nodding off at the PSC meeting while listening to opponents of the power plant and export facility, he awoke long enough to say he believes fracked gas is a bridge fuel. That is not leadership on climate.

    1. You’re correct, and that’s what I meant by him having “brightsided” his past accomplishments. I was commenting mainly on what he said in this clip about the future, and he certainly put a chicken in every pot there. Let’s hope that it upgrades the AGW debate on the Democrat’s side, as opposed to the race to the bottom on AGW that we see among the Repugnants. (And Rick Perry is now gone from the race—I would rather that it had been Cruz or Santorum, but with any luck they are not far behind Perry).
