It costs $350,000 an hour to keep that useless thing up, and $10,000 a pound to ship anything up there. That space cheeseburger may have cost the taxpayers $3000. And the whole thing has cost $100 billion over 10 years.
While we waste time, energy, and $$$ on “manned” space flight and talk of sending humans to Mars, the planet is falling apart under our feet and the sickos are trying to cut the NASA earth exploration satellite program budget. We may remain ignorant of some things that will bite us in the ass before long, but we WILL have some pretty pictures to ooh and aah over.
The GRACE satellites have given us many good insights into what’s happening on earth, and cost under $100 million, less than !% of what one year of the ISS costs. The latest eye-opener is how rapidly and badly we are depleting some major aquifers.

(There are reasons that the military is using more and more drones/UAV’s, and our space program should concentrate on unmanned vehicles as well).
