“Merchants of Doubt” Will Show Links Between Climate, Tobacco Misinformation

Director Robbie Kenner talks about his new film, “Merchants of Doubt”, which profiles the parallels between tobacco industry science denial, and climate denial.

Kenner is the director of the highly regarded “Food Inc”, which had a big impact a few years ago. I think this one, coming as more and more climate deniers are back on their heels as the tide turns against them, could have a large impact.

Release scheduled for in February 2015.

  1. Regarding my NIPCC comment, there was nothing vague about “Fossil fuel has been a marvelous energy source. Why would the world’s major scientific organizations and government want to exaggerate the impacts of increasing atmospheric CO2 concentrations? Please answer that.

Onto the science, let’s proceed in small steps. Do you agree that if a body (in this case the Earth’s biosphere) absorbs more energy than it emits that it will get hotter?

  2. Luv the sidestep, but all readers need do is go back to my prior comment where I pointed out your false premise as “a worn-out talking point about ‘all the world’s this and that’ when you are actually speaking of a minority of people offering summaries for policy makers and a select few numbers of politicians? Did you fail, for example, to notice how a major section of the Australian government voted down their cap-and-trade bills not once but twice?” You demand me to answer a question yet you utterly sidestep my own? How will that work out in your favor? Ironic, since I’m one who’s been accused of employing “Gish Gallop” tactics by more than one commenter oblivious to their own use of it.

Since you already established from your own reading of my work that I leave the fistfighting over science points to those with the expertise to do so, why on Earth would you veer off into that arena? Could it be no more than a distraction to cover your inability to rise to the simple challenge of supporting Naomi Oreskes’ contention – the basic original thrust of this blog post – that skeptic climate scientists are paid shills of the fossil fuel industry, operating under a yet-to-be-discovered directive ordering them to lie and fabricate false reports while facing a cut-off of funds if they fail to do so?

Stand and deliver….. or choose to employ every distraction tactic you’ve seen before. Choose the latter, though and you might get a ‘thumbs up’ from your friends but rest assured they will never look to you as a source of reliable information to prove skeptics are crooks.
