I hope a lot of people will see this one, which sets the current unsettling rush of climate fueled destruction in some historical perspective.
If nothing else, watch it for the surgically clean and crushing body slam of Foxpert Meteorologist, Joe Bastardi, toward the end.

Joe Bastardi is not the only meteorologist who is skeptical of the catastrophic anthropogenic global warming hypothesis. Polls show that most other meteorologists are, too.
Meteorologists know the difference between weather and climate. So we had a couple of very cold winters. Does that mean we’re entering a new ice age? They know: No, it is just weather. So we’re having a very hot summer. Does that mean that global warming has finally resumed? No, it is just weather.
The only scientists in relevant disciplines who are mostly united in their apparent belief in CAGW are the ones with skin in the game: the so-called “climate scientists” who depend on climate scaremongering to gin up their grant money. Perhaps that’s why Al Gore is having temper(ature) tantrums:

Well, as with all denier claims: Let’s check reality…
The American Meteorological Society states:
“Indeed, strong observational evidence and results from modeling studies indicate that, at least over the last 50 years, human activities are a major contributor to climate change.”
http://www.ametsoc.org/policy/2007climatechange.html
The Australian Meteorological Society states:
“Most of the observed warming is highly likely due to human activity”
http://www.amos.org.au/documents/item/26
The British Royal Meteorological Society states:
“The changes were are seeing now in our climate are the result of emissions since industrialisation and we have already set in motion the next 50 years of global warming – what we do from now on will determine how worse it will get.”
http://www.rmets.org/news/detail.php?ID=332
And I could go on and on and on…
It is pure bullshit to say, that most meteorologists think, that human emissions are not a main contributor to the current warming. You can find only few jerks amongst meteorologists like Joe Bastardi or others, who are either are liars, idiots, deranged or paid to say so.
If you want to bet the future of the world on these madmen instead of all the expertise in the great meteorological societies like the ones mentioned above, it’s your choice, but it is surely not a clever one.
Dave Burton you are either a bit stupid or financial motivated to post such nonsense.
January to June global temps

Very nice, Peter. I have a cute video of Bastardi making a prediction for this year’s Arctic sea ice extent minimum, but I’m waiting a few more weeks before I share it. He might still be right.
keep me in the loop. I will be doing my annual sea ice vid in september.
NevenA said, “I have a cute video of Bastardi making a prediction… but I’m waiting a few more weeks before I share it. He might still be right.”
So, Neven, does that mean you’ll only share it if his prediction turns out to be wrong, and you won’t share it if he’s right? What does that say about your scientific impartiality?
Bastardi is in the business of making predictions, LOTS of predictions. He’s a smart guy, but he’s not infallible. Some of his predictions are wrong, of course, as he will readily admit. If you only share his errors, you are telling us a lot more about YOU than about HIM.
I think the video shows how accurate Bastardi has been.
I long ago learned that every time a denialist falls back to using “Al Gore” and “grant money” in the same comment, that comment can be dismissed out of hand, as it’s sure to be low on veracity and high on wishful thinking. Your comment didn’t disappoint.
Oh, well.
BTW, no polls–at least not ones conducted by organizations other than Fox–show that “most other meteorologists” are “skeptical” of CAGW. But if you have evidence to the contrary, I’d really like to see it.
“Polls show that most other meteorologists are, too.” – If you mean practicing meteorological SCIENTISTS, false. There is absolutely no evidence to support that claim. If you mean TV weather men, possible.
Over and over, I see some really good forecasters who fall into the trap of repeating long since dismissed myths on climate. I really do not understand it. Some of the TV folks have very little background in atmospheric physics so perhaps they have some excuse for not doing their homework.
Not so with Joe, he knows better to repeat that silliness, and so do many others who have been made to look very foolish for coming out with myths they heard on TV or talk radio. Climate physics can be tricky and what you might expect at first glance becomes altogether different when you take a deeper look at the physics.
That said, I know plenty of fellow meteorologists of all political persuasions who have no difficulty in separating the science from politics.
George Mason Univ. has done several surveys of meteorologists in TV and there is a high degree of skepticism…nearly 35%, but among all meteorologists, it is much, much lower. Among univ. profs, you will find almost none. Most of those who are skeptical repeat the same old myths when I ask why, which tells me they have not even bothered to read the IPCC.
Peter,
A superb video that shows the real deal. Humans are changing the climate by overloading the air and oceans with too much carbon and the heat imbalance is causing the planetary system to warm. The evidence is all around us if our heads are not buried in the sand.
There is still time to change our ways by becoming more energy efficient and weening ourselves off fossil fuels but we need to properly price carbon. In doing so we can lead the next major tech revolution and save the planet at the same time. We will create jobs here and secure our country by not relying on middle eastern oil.
If we stay addicted to fossil fuels and do not begin investing in those technologies now, we will be buying them from China in the future instead of selling it to them. That would be just plain un-American.
