Soil carbon and climate change: from the Jenkinson effect to the compost-bomb instability

At the moment, human society is acting like the mythical optimist who, upon falling from the top of a sky-scraper, shouted ‘all-right so far’ as he hurtled past each floor. The optimist needed to look at what lay ahead.
Lester Brown has looked ahead and the likely consequences are not good. He has shown us the escape route, but we must we act together, sufficiently early and effectively.
