It’s going to rebuild. The question is, will the rebuilders continue with the same mindset that brought the once-proud city to ruin, or can it be a laboratory to show the world what a sustainable, renewably powered industrial center can be like?

Hey, I have seen these before! Quite eye opening.
They are doing urban gardening already, but the Growing Power urban agriculture model could work well in Detroit. If enough of the greenhouse facilities are spread throughout the city, people can easily use locally grown, organic food as a primary grocery source. These greenhouses could create many inner city urban farmer jobs. As we know, the fossil fuel inputs to this type of food are dramatically lower, so the carbon footprint is small and the food price is independent of fuel cost.
There could be a push to make the city friendly for bicycling and public transportation. The city could be transformed into an EV haven with plenty of charging infrastructure. An extensive recycling program could be implemented.
There are all kinds of things to do with a (somewhat) clean slate. Not just for Detroit, but America needs renewal!
