DeGrasse Tyson/Cosmos Inspires 2 Minute Hate on Fox News

Who is the hater, Gavin McInnes? Remind us, will you Media Matters?

Media Matters:

McInnes used to write for VDARE.com, which the Southern Poverty Law Center identifies as a “White Nationalist” “hate group,” and stated in 2011 “I love me some VDARE.” In one post for VDARE.com, McInnes compared a Canadian university to a “madrassa” because it wouldn’t host Jared Taylor, a white nationalist who advocates for founding all-white towns.

McInnes currrently writes for Taki’s Magazine, a “paleoconservative” website that publishes overtly racistarticles including ones by neo-confederates. At Taki’s, McInnes has referred to Asian-Americans as “slopes” and “riceballs,” suggested Muslims are “stupider” and “more violent” due to inbreedingdefended blackface because some minstrel shows were “just mimicking black people” and “fun,” backed the racist comments ofDuck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson, and argued that to yell the n-word at someone is “not racist” but “just very rude.” He also owns his own website, StreetCarnage.com, where he defended Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s racist comments because Bundy was just “wonder[ing]” if African-Americans were better off under slavery. In 2013, 18 Milling Rising gave him a “Lifetime Achievement Award in Hipster Racism,” a brand of racism marked by making “ironically” racist “jokes.”

He has also compared being a single mother to “child abuse,” claimed that women who join the workforce are generally not doing what “they naturally want to do,” and said that having short hair is like “rape.”

Greg Gutfeld, co-host of The Five and host of Red Eye, is one of McInnes’ biggest fans and hosts him often. According to a Nexis search, Fox News’ Hannity has also hosted McInnes frequently — 18 times so far in 2014.

UPDATE: Scary black man mentioned in the video rant, young Neil Degrasse Tyson.

  1. Gobsmacked with disbelief at the ignorance and hate on display, and this is supposed to be entertainment?
How on Earth can such repulsive ignorance breed in this age of information?
Or should that be Age of Disinformation?
God help America, it needs it now more than ever!

George Orwell wrote this propaganda technique up in 1984. Orwell described it as the “two minute hate”. This is the same technique used by the Nazi media masters to persuade the Germans to hate the Jews. Fox News is basically promoting tribalism and jealousy for disgruntled old white people.

It is repulsive talk, but it is not ignorance. It is a disinformation campaign. The anxious white people that Fox News sees as its audience understand that their middle class lifestyles are under attack and they are likely sliding down the social ladder. They have to have scapegoats to blame. And the advertisers and owners and managers at Fox News want to misdirect the attention of the public. Fox News will never report that while American wages have been static for 40 years, corporate profits have doubled. Instead, the people are told that “government is the problem”. Or blacks, or Muslims. Especially black Muslims. Like Barack Obama of Kenya.

America would be better advised to regard God as a crutch for the weak-minded and get over it. Much like France and England, for example, have become far more secular and peaceful as they’ve walked away from the superstition called religion. Religion and rationality, religion and science are in the end incompatible no matter how ofter the pitch is made for religion having any value in modern life.

Face the reality. Fox News viewers are by and large very religious. They are also very nuts. Coincidence? [sarcasm, of course]

      1. Great analysis Ray, but if they were really that sophisticated they would have realised that denying human-caused climate change would be a political dead end that would eventually expose their greed and dishonesty, and destroy their credibility.
However, as difficult as it may be to imagine, such traits may actually be revered and celebrated by the majority of the voting population and if so, we have a big problem.

  2. Ok… so do any of these guys disagree with the argument that the first TV-shows will be the first signals from humanity to reach other stars?

… or did they simply just understand the content of the discussion?

  3. If anyone doubted the Dunning-Kruger effect, these Fox uber-morons must have removed every single shred of doubt.

How can anyone disagree with the measured logic of NDGT? Plus he’s just a nice guy.

  4. John Bolton’s presence on that panel is all you need to know about the lack of humanity available at Fox News. What a waste of ergs such broadcasting is.

  5. Gret Gutfeld is porn for right-wingers. He gets up there with no journalistic integrity, simply to mock and berate liberals, and to do this under the cover of humor. He doesn’t make anything even close to a nuanced rational argument through his comedy the way, let’s say, Jon Stewart or Colbert does. But it doesn’t matter because he’s mocking libs. That’s what Fox news is about. Opiate for the right-wing masses.

I mean, let’s sit around in a circle and say things like “I _HATE_ this guy!” How witty, huh? At least that guy’s being direct.

    1. I’m not even sure that Neil Tyson is a liberal. I’ve heard him in interviews and on his Star Talk podcast many, many times, and his political position (if you could call it that) is pretty nuanced and middle of the road. He mainly dislikes dogma of any kind, whether it be left, right,or whatever. He has gone on record for defending the actions (not rhetoric) of GOP dominated administrations as being ones where many important science initiatives were funded and supported in the past.
The problem,as I see it, for the FOX clan,is that they have gone soooo far to the right, that middle of the road is now considered extreme.

          1. Very good examples of what I was talking about jimbills. Thanks!

  6. I won’t do that again. Such vile, repugnant prejudice. I am cleansing my soul of this little boy bad manners display. Ironic that this crowd thinks they are defending America when they are what needs most to be cured about America.

    1. Sometimes you have to wonder if they realize that this stuff is being recorded for posterity. Would you like to be remembered like that by your grandchildren ?
