They’d like you to call them “Oil Sands”, but they are tar. And they have to be cooked, using huge quanitities of natural gas, to release the oil contained in them. It’s an industrial project almost without parallel in scale, and toxicity. It’s a potential greenhouse gas disaster, if not contained.
