Science magazine reports that Chinese scientists are fighting the invasion and impending takeover of the Yellow Sea by blooms of enormous jellyfish.
Over recent decades, jelly fish populations have soared in several corners of the global oceans, fueled by pollution, fertilizers, low oxygen zones, and global warming.
As this video shows, the gigantic jellies blooming in East Asian waters make life more difficult for fisherman, and have scientists worried that their waters may be creating “jellyfish-dominated ecosystems reminiscent of those during the Precambrian world, more than 550 million years ago.”
According to one scientist, “Once the ecosystem shifts to jellyfish, it may be impossible to go back.”
For Climate deniers, the answer of course, is not to change our habits, but learn to like jellyfish ice cream.
